Using radar beam-parks to characterize the Kosmos-1408 fragmentation event

We describe the use of radar beam-park experiments to characterize space debris resulting from a recent fragmentation event, deliberate demolition defunct Kosmos-1408 satellite. identify fragments and present distribution measurement parameters as well proxy orbit parameters. apply novel technique estimate size objects by matching signal noise ratio detection radiation pattern radar. With this method we cloud. also demonstrate how pair observations can be used perform crude, yet seemingly reliable, initial determination. Finally, followup ∼5 months after that show still compact cloud debris.
